Escape the Heat at Edge of the World Trail

This incredible spot is about an hour’s drive from our cozy Lazy Laurel cabin in Cherry Log, GA. The journey there is quite scenic, winding through beautiful forests that build anticipation for the refreshing waters awaiting you. What makes this destination even better is its close proximity to Amicalola Falls State Park, one of Georgia’s highest waterfalls and home to some of our favorite hiking trails. You could easily plan a full day, starting with a morning hike at Amicalola and then heading over to the Edge of the World for an afternoon of cooling off.

Fun for All Ages

The Edge of the World Trail is truly ideal for families, especially if you have kids eager to splash around. The river here boasts crystal-clear waters and varying depths, providing endless opportunities for fun. Our top tip? Bring an inflatable tube! You can lazily float in the deeper pools or, for a bit more excitement, slide down the smooth, natural rock formations. It’s like a natural water park for those brave enough.

Picnic Perfect

Beyond the swimming, the Edge of the World Trail offers a wonderful environment for a full day outdoors. You’ll find plenty of inviting spots along the boardwalk that skirts the river, perfect for setting up a picnic. Imagine spreading out a blanket, enjoying a delicious lunch, and listening to the gentle sounds of the water as the kids play nearby.

For those who love to explore, be sure to walk all the way to the left, to the very end of the boardwalk trail. This section reveals some of the most stunning waterfalls and fascinating rocks that are just waiting to be explored. It’s a fantastic spot for photography, a moment of quiet reflection, or even a bit of easy rock climbing for the more active members of your group.
