Cherry Log Cabin Rentals: The Lazy Laurel
Cherry Log Cabin Rentals: The Lazy Laurel
Looking for Cherry Log cabin rentals in the North Georgia mountains? The Lazy Laurel is a secluded two-bedroom, two-bathroom mountain cabin in Cherry Log, GA, sitting almost exactly halfway between downtown Blue Ridge and downtown Ellijay. Twenty minutes to either town, an hour and a half from Atlanta, and quiet enough that the loudest thing you will hear is Fightingtown Creek.

Why stay in Cherry Log instead of Blue Ridge
Most people searching for a North Georgia mountain getaway start by looking at Blue Ridge cabin rentals. Blue Ridge is wonderful, and it is also busy, and cabins close to downtown tend to be close to each other as well. Cherry Log solves that. You get genuine seclusion and year-round mountain views, and you are still only twenty minutes from the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, the downtown restaurants and shops, the breweries and the wineries. Ellijay is the same distance in the other direction.
That is the whole argument for Cherry Log cabins: Blue Ridge accessibility, without Blue Ridge crowds. You drive into town for dinner, then come back to a porch where you cannot see another house.
The cabin
Two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, sleeps up to six.
Upstairs
The main level opens onto a large covered porch with a built-in dog gate, a grill and an outdoor dining area. Inside, the living room has cathedral ceilings and a gas fireplace, and it runs into a full kitchen and coffee bar. The king master suite is on this floor with its own full bathroom and dual sinks.
Downstairs
The lower level is the game room: pool table, air hockey, a bar area, a large smart TV and a pull-out sofa. The queen guest suite is on this floor, also with its own attached full bathroom. Step out from the game room onto the lower patio for the hot tub and fire pit.

Bringing the dogs
We welcome up to two well behaved dogs. The porch has a custom built-in gate, so they can be outside with you without you having to hold a leash the entire time. It is one of the more common reasons guests pick us over other Cherry Log vacation rentals.
Getting here and parking
Cherry Log is about an hour and a half from downtown Atlanta. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) are both roughly ninety minutes away. You do not need four-wheel drive to reach us in normal conditions, though AWD or 4WD is worth having if snow is in the forecast, since small mountain towns are slow to clear roads.
Our driveway is steep but paved, with plenty of room to park and turn around. If you are driving something large and want to see it for yourself first, we filmed a full-size SUV turning around in it on our driveway and parking page.

What is around us
The Cashes Valley off-road trail starts about half a mile from the cabin, which makes us an unusually convenient base if you are bringing a Jeep. Beyond that, most of what people come to North Georgia for is inside an hour:
- Cashes Valley off-road trail, half a mile away
- Edge of the World Trail, our favorite swimming hole
- Cartecay River Loop Trail near Ellijay
- Amicalola Falls State Park
- Toccoa River Swinging Bridge and summer tubing on the Toccoa
- Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, twenty minutes away
- Mercier Orchards for u-pick apples, cider and the bakery
- Waterfalls near Blue Ridge and fly fishing on the Toccoa

Best time of year to come
Fall is the busiest season and books out first, for the obvious reason. Winter is quietly the best-kept secret: occasional snow, and much longer views once the leaves drop. Spring has the strongest waterfall flow of the year and the best hiking weather. Summer is for the water, tubing the Toccoa and cooling off at the swimming holes.
